This Thursday (08/29), Débora Salles, Researcher and General Coordinator of the Internet and Social Networks Studies Laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), participated in the panel “Trust Dynamics around Emerging Technologies: Distrust and the Erosion of Trust” at the Amsterdam Trust Summit 2025.
The event, held on August 28 and 29 at the University of Amsterdam, brought together researchers, activists, and policymakers to discuss the challenges of trust in contemporary digital society. The conference was organized by the Trust in the Digital Society Research Priority Area, in a hybrid and interdisciplinary format.
Salles presented the NetLab UFRJ study “Harm Caused by Misleading Advertising on Meta: Fraudulent Ads Spread Misinformation About Pix to Defraud Brazilian Citizens,” which provides evidence on how malicious advertisers have exploited public policies aimed at financial inclusion to scam Brazilian citizens through boosted ads on Meta platforms.
