Misogyny and Digital Platforms in Focus: NetLab Researchers Speak at the MEL Festival

Last Friday (May 29), researchers from the Internet and Social Media Studies Laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), Marie Santini and Luciane Belin, delivered the lecture "New Technologies, Old Forms of Violence: Challenges in the Debate on Online Misogyny" at the São Paulo State Legislative Assembly (ALESP), opening the program of the Women in Struggle Festival (Festival Mulheres em Luta).

The event brought together dozens of state and city legislators from 18 Brazilian states who are members of the Enxame Network, an initiative dedicated to promoting women’s rights and combating gender-based violence across the country.

On Saturday (May 30), Luciane Belin returned to the festival to participate in the panel "Health and Reproductive Justice: Menstrual Dignity, Reproductive Rights, and Humanized Childbirth", where she presented the research study "Abortion on the Agenda of Social Media: Five Years of Debates on Sexual and Reproductive Rights on Digital Platforms."

This dual participation reinforces NetLab UFRJ’s role at the intersection of research and public advocacy, positioning the laboratory as a qualified voice in debates on the impacts of digital platforms on women.
