Last Friday (14), the director of NetLab UFRJ, Marie Santini, took part in the panel “Disinformation and Denialism at the COP of Truth: Ethical Reflections and Political Responses.” The event, organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, took place at the Global Ethical Stocktake Pavilion, in the Blue Zone of COP30, in Belém.
Moderated by Frederico Assis, the panel also brought together Indigenous activist Txai Suruí and expert Emmanuel Guerin to discuss how disinformation campaigns undermine public trust and weaken the collective action needed to address the climate crisis. The debate addressed the ethical challenges posed by the current information ecosystem and the political responsibilities of governments and platforms.
NetLab UFRJ’s participation highlighted the need for evidence-based strategies to protect the integrity of information, ensuring that COP30 is consolidated as a milestone in favor of truth, democracy, and climate justice.
