of Disinformation

By analyzing the business model of digital platforms and producers of online disinformation, we map how the influence industry benefits from the lack of transparency and regulation of internet services. We also identify who is behind these activities and how they generate profit from the manipulation of information.

Through multiplatform analyses, we identified strategies for manipulating public opinion in Brazil and sought to understand the functioning of the online disinformation ecosystem in the country.

& Hate Speech

In this line of research, we map disinformation campaigns and hate speech that attack, defame, violate and devalue women and their rights on digital platforms. We seek to develop computational and digital methods to understand the scale, impact and content of gender disinformation.

Mapping the online socio-environmental debate seeks to understand how narratives and disinformation strategies about the destruction of biomes, violence against indigenous peoples and the impact of extractive practices are constructed and disseminated in Brazil.

Disinformation campaigns aligned with the increase in the denial of scientific knowledge permeate the current political scenario and encourage conspiracist discourses. In this line of research, follow projects that analyze scientific production, denialist campaigns and conspiracy theories on the networks.

Algorithm Studies & Recommender Systems

Different online platforms operate through recommendation systems with algorithms that generate visibility and relevance, endorse certain content over others and induce user navigation, clicks and plays. We study the impacts of these systems on the circulation of online information, on choices and on the construction of users' consumption habits.
