On Sunday (13/04), the director of the Laboratory of Internet and Social Network Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), Marie Santini, participated in the panel “Women in the Crosshairs: Internet, Sovereignty and Resistance” at the Women in Struggle Festival (MEL).
With the research “'Learn to Avoid ‘That Type’ of Woman’: Discursive Strategies and the Monetization of Misogyny on YouTube”, the researcher spoke about the strategies for monetizing misogynistic content on the digital platform, analyzing how channels generate profit through advertisements, channel members and other resources.
The MEL Festival, which took place from April 11 to 13 in São Paulo, brought important national and international names to the women's agenda. With a varied program, which included workshops, cultural activities and discussion groups, the event opened space for discussions about feminism and contemporary gender issues.
