G20 leaders to discuss social media transparency

g1 - September 13, 2024

Transparency and regulation of ads on social media is one of the topics of debate at the G20, which will bring together leaders of the world's largest economies in Rio de Janeiro in November this year. The goal is to present diagnoses and solutions to global challenges discussed at the global summit.

The topic was previously analyzed by a group of six researchers from Brazil, the United States, Ireland and Thailand in a document by T20, the G20's arm for "think tanks", which function as public policy reflection groups.

The Brazilians include Rose Marie Santini, a professor at the School of Communication at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Débora Salles, a doctor in Information Science from UFRJ, and Humberto Ribeiro Filho, director of Sleeping Giants Brazil.

The researchers analyzed public documents and terms of use of the main social networks, in addition to specific case studies for the four countries.
