General coordinator of NetLab participates in ‘webinar’ from the Academy of Sciences of Bahia


Débora Salles, general coordinator of NetLab UFRJ, presents research on environmental conspiracy and cultural wars on Brazilian YouTube

This Tuesday (05/09), the general coordinator of the Internet and Social Network Studies Laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), Débora Salles, participated in the third edition of the ‘Enfrenta’ project, organized by the Academy of Sciences of Bahia (ACB) and the Conrado Wessel Foundation (FCW).


With the theme “Strategies for Tackling Discredit in Science and Social Disinformation”, the debate was also attended by Valéria Mendonça, associate professor at the Department of Public Health at the University of Brasília (UnB); and journalist Herton Escobar, reporter for Jornal da USP, specialized in science and environment coverage.


Mediation was carried out by Soraya Smaili, coordinator of the Center for Society, University and Science Studies at UNIFESP (SoU_Ciência); and Renato Janine Ribeiro, president of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science, who also contributed with reflections relevant to the subject.


This activity is part of a series of ‘webinars’ on disinformation and scientific denialism, which aims to address the conditioning factors of disinformation in Brazil and point out possible ways to curb this type of content, based on the construction of specific public policies.
