The General Coordinator of the Laboratory for Internet and Social Network Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), Débora Salles, was a consultant for the new report by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and Vox-Pol, entitled, “Right- and left-wing violent extremist abuse of digital technologies in South America, Africa and Asia”

The unprecedented report, published this Wednesday (15/04), investigates the little-explored phenomenon of right- and left-wing violent extremist groups in the Global South and their abuse of digital technologies. According to the research, as technology evolves at an unprecedented pace, violent extremists increasingly exploit digital platforms, posing complex and multifaceted threats to national and global security.

This report seeks to fill this gap by analyzing the online activities, narratives and potential cyber capabilities of these actors.
