The government has filed a lawsuit against Meta to block the use of official symbols and images of authorities in scams promoted on Facebook and Instagram (controlled by the company).
The initiative came from the Attorney General's Office (AGU), which filed the lawsuit this Monday (28). According to the AGU, at least 1,770 misleading ads were published on these social networks between January 10 and 21, with the aim of deceiving users.
The scams simulate government programs, use official logos, names of public agencies and images manipulated by artificial intelligence of political figures to give credibility to the scams.
The scams promised, for example, the deposit of amounts via Pix, but demanded the payment of a false fee. The scammers took advantage of a wave of misinformation about the payment system to deceive victims.
The lawsuit is based on data revealed in February by a study by the Laboratory of Internet and Social Network Studies at UFRJ (NetLab).
