The study by the Laboratory of Internet and Social Media Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), “Visual Social Network Analysis on DeepWalk Graph-Embeddings and Self-Organizing Maps” recieved an award in the Best Short Article category at BrasNAM at the 44th edition of the Brazilian Computer Society Congress.
The congress “Digital Desert: The Disconnected and Unseen World” was held in Brasilia. It is the largest computing and IT event in Latin America, and brought together several researchers and professionals in the field of Computing and Information Technology between July 21 and 25, 2024.
The research
Written by Thiago Ciodaro, Vitor do Carmo, Fernando Ferreira, Felipe Grael, Debora Salles and Marie Santini, the study combines the power of representing complex networks by Graph-Embedding using the DeepWalk algorithm and Self-Organizing Maps to identify data structures and patterns. The NetLab UFRJ article described the results of experiments with the proposed model using Twitter/X retweet data on topics related to vaccination in Brazil.
