The unknown of X

Fast Company Brasil - November 9, 2024

In recent days, there has been widespread talk about the blocking of the X platform (formerly Twitter) in Brazil. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes decided to block the platform after the social network failed to comply with a court order requiring the appointment of a legal representative in the country.

However, the imbroglio is set against the backdrop of previous court orders issued by Moraes for Elon Musk's platform to moderate hate speech, racism and anti-democratic content and remove some profiles related to such content, which, according to the minister, could negatively impact the 2024 municipal elections.

According to Moraes, the measure aims to ensure that the platform operates within the limits of Brazilian law and respects security standards and public order. Musk refuses to accept requests for moderation on the platform, accusing the Supreme Court of censorship.
