Kwai is full: what the 'earn money, but first make a Pix' scam looks like

The short video app Kwai is full of fraudulent ads that usually promise a certain amount (which can be up to R$5,000), but are subject to a payment via Pix to receive the amount. To give it more credibility, cloned pages from "gov.br" and the Federal Revenue Service are used, in addition to deepfakes with lawyers or famous presenters, such as Fátima Bernardes and Ratinho.


"Scammers do not choose the platform randomly," says the researcher. "They understand that there is a greater probability of reaching people in vulnerable situations — and, therefore, more susceptible to interactions with this type of misleading content," explains Bruno Mattos, research coordinator at NetLab (Laboratory of Internet and Social Network Studies at UFRJ).
