The first edition of the 'Cambridge Disinformation Summit', held on July 27th and 28th in England, brought together specialists from all over the world in the areas of psychology, journalism, financial management, political science, among others, in order to explore the theme of critical misinformation. In this edition, the director of NetLab, Marie Santini, was the only guest from Latin America.
During the two days of the event, panels were held on the themes of accountability of platforms, freedom of expression, the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence (AI), journalistic integrity, strategies to combat disinformation, as we'll as the profit resulting from disinformation as a business.
The director of NetLab UFRJ, Marie Santini, professor at the School of Communication at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (ECO - UFRJ), participated in the opening panel on the second day, debating the profitability of the disinformation industry. Also participating in the debate were researchers Emma Briant (Monash University), Joshua Braun (University of Massachusetts) and Henry Friedman (UCLA Anderson School of Management).
Conceived by Professor Alan Jagolinzer, from the Cambridge University Business School, the 'Cambridge Disinformation Summit' is an academic meeting that aims to address the issue of disinformation from an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach, seeking to improve the field of research, practices policies and socially sustainable engagement.
