Developed in partnership with the Laboratory of Internet and Social Media Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), the Policy Brief entitled “The Economic and Social Impact of Platform Transparency: Ad Regulation for the Construction of Inclusive Digital Markets” was published on Wednesday (28/08). The document is part of the Task Force TF05: Inclusive Digital Transformation of the T20, one of the groups of the G20 2024 Brazil.
The T20’s contribution to the forum involves several formats, with emphasis on the Policy Briefs, which aim to present innovative proposals and solutions to address the global challenges discussed at the G20 2024.
The Policy Brief
The main objective of this policy brief is to recommend transparency mechanisms, parameters and means of access to data from digital platforms, which are transferable between global and local contexts.
Our recommendations are based on a comparative analysis of the public documentation and terms of use of the main platforms, combined with empirical case studies from four different regions of the world: Brazil, the USA, Ireland and Thailand.
Based on this analysis, we present the main issues related to digital advertising transparency, and offer guidelines and strategic solutions to address these challenges.
