The Ministry of Justice (MJ) and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), as well as some of their members, have been at the center of major social and political debate in Brazil in recent years, and are also the targets of different types of attacks.
This analysis by the Internet and Social Network Studies Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, NetLab UFRJ, aims to identify advertisements published on Meta's platforms that misuse the image of ministers of the Federal Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice.
Our results present evidence of both the misuse of images of ministers and the name of institutions in 981 advertisements broadcast between September 2023 and February 2024.
In an ongoing climate of attacks on, and the delegitimization of, institutions, advertisements reinforce a distrust in the judiciary in the mind of public.
