Minister Cida Gonçalves (Women) said this Friday (13) that she intends to submit a proposal to the women's bench of Congress to criminalize hate speech against women on the internet. The measure could be done via a bill or through gender discrimination in the racism law, for example.
Current legislation provides for punishment for condoning the crime. However, hate speech against women on the internet is often disguised as a joke with the right to freedom of expression. And social platforms do not remove the content, which ends up disguised as a video and generates money.
"These are important things that we have to start working on, based on this data, and on [criminal] classification. This is the best way we have to curb some type of action," she said. "We didn't have the data, now we do."
